As I sat in my seat awaiting the exhausting :47 minute flight to Florida on Wednesday, I observed a plethora of people from all walks of life and among them a few Obama tee-shirts and ball-caps thus I felt inspired to spew my thoughts recalling some events that I had heard earlier in the week…
I WANT- I WANT-I WANT
Although I have spent the majority of my life more closely aligned with the “Have-Nots” rather than the “Haves”, I have never expected or more so demanded that the US Government provide for me. Since the age of 16, I have worked to provide for myself; yes I will admit that I was blessed with the help of a supporting family, but none the less I worked. And there were times when there wasn’t quite enough for all of the “extras” in life I desired. But you know that’s just the way it was and I continued to work to fill those gaps…sometimes succeeding sometimes not!
Now we are in this huge economic mess which really got its roots from the collapse of the housing markets. Where we now are learning that many banks were forced, yes I said forced to provide mortgages to people who had no business getting them but felt entitled! After all, why shouldn’t they be able to have a piece of the American dream? We also found out that some banks were lending money for mortgage loans that they didn’t even have!
What started this rant was that yesterday (Tuesday) I saw this huge protest rally by ACORN against banks to try to stop them from foreclosing on delinquent
mortgages in default most likely given to people who couldn’t afford them in the first place. Now the practice of creditors taking back collateral that secured loans is nothing new. This even goes down to your local pawn shops except for the fact that they take possession of it from day 1. Where did all of this “entitlement” come from? The mentality that these people are owed something just because other people have more is absurd! Heck I’d like to drive a Porsche, but I can’t afford one so I drive a Ford. Have I missed something here in the way I was raised? I learned a long time ago that I needed to provide for myself because if I waited for someone else to do it I would starve! Gee my parents who taught me this must have been visionaries?
Why is it that these groups of people and you know who you are have it instilled in them that they deserve this and that just because they are part of some ethnic group or socio-economic strata? And for 1 minute have these people ever thought of doing something, anything for themselves yet in their mind they deserve everything hard-working people have earned just because they want it. I heard an interesting tidbit the other day that 40k people in NYC pay almost 50% of the taxes for the city. Now think about how staggering that is considering that NYC has about 10mm people!

Now I not saying that home ownership should be afforded to only a select few, but for Gods sake at least meet the minimum qualification standards. I’ve spent a good part of my adult life in the lending business and have always had a set of criteria to follow when extending credit. Why now or over the last 4-5 years have these practices been striped away for a certain few? And not only that the removal of these guidelines has been endorsed by the very people we entrusted to keep out country on a sound path…the US Congress! I can always remember my Mom saying that when this happened “the horse is out of the barn because the door was left wide-open” and now these hypocrites have the nerve to stand up and question how we got here when they themselves took the barn door off of the hinges!
As a small business owner I would love to be
able to subsidize my shortfalls in cash flow with a line of credit, but guess what I may not be able to meet all of the criteria to qualify so I don’t have one. And I haven’t seen any banks lining up to give me free $$$$ without qualifying just because I want it.
We are on a dangerous and slippery slope here by re-enforcing this “do-nothing and the Gov’t will provide mentality”. Instead of this administration attempting to correct the problem for future generations they are perpetuating it by endorsing it on a widespread basis to ensure their power-base!
Remember one of the basic principles of socialism is to get & keep the masses impover
ished, powerless & totally dependent on the belief that the Gov’t. will take care of them. The fundamental flaw in this whole premise is that the Gov’t. doesn’t take care of them…they only take care of themselves at the expense of them…and in this equation those running the Gov’t. live high & mighty just like the “so-called rich” that they have convinced the masses to hate!
How are they any different? Just because they say they are & we shouldn’t notice their lives of privilege. If they are so concerned with helping the little people they would give up a little & suffer with the “great un-washed” (to quote Harry Reed), but no it’s a case of Do what I say but don’t do what I do!
Haven’t we heard that somewhere back in history?
Something about eating cake!!!
